Social Media

There are some special considerations with social media curation on websites. Here are the options that are available for social media:

  • Embed codes provide a simple way to show all posts from one social media service, such as Twitter, and are the easiest option. This is the best choice for most websites. However, it also has the least amount of control.
  • Live social media feeds require the use of a vendor, such as Tagboard. A vendor will allow you to control which posts show in the live feed before they publish to your website and gather all posts across various social media services with a hashtag you specify.
  • Manual curation requires copying and pasting select content from social channels into the site. This gives the most control, but it is more work to maintain.
  • Social media APIs are the most expensive option and the most likely to break over time. Social media sites have changed their APIs dramatically in the past, sometimes even completely revoking access to content. Because of this risk, and the costs and time associated with integrating directly with social media platforms, at this time we do not recommend building any direct integrations with social media platforms. We strongly recommend selecting a vendor product to assist with live social media feeds and seeing if it is possible to create the experience you want to build using their work.
