GatherContent

GatherContent is a service we use to collect, edit, and verify content before importing it to WordPress. A content strategist uses GatherContent to set up templates that you can populate before the website is finished with development. This content is then imported into WordPress using either a plugin, or manual migration. GatherContent is helpful for providing guidelines on content length as well as which content is optional or required.

Benefits of GatherContent

  • Begin collecting content before development is finished on a project in a structured manner
  • Provides an editing/review workflow similar to Google Docs that WordPress doesn’t have

Things to Be Aware of with GatherContent

  • You will still need to learn to enter content in WordPress once the theme is built
  • Anything that is being custom-built will need to be manually migrated by a producer
  • Hours are required to set up templates once design is finished, including time to coordinate between the designer and strategist
  • You cannot preview your content on the website
  • GatherContent is a one-way sync—if you edit in WordPress, it doesn’t update in GatherContent
  • GatherContent is a one-time import—our license cannot be used to for site owners to maintain content on an ongoing basis

When to Use GatherContent

  • When you have many stakeholders or levels of approval for content
  • When your stakeholders are not comfortable reviewing or editing in WordPress and will not be involved with site editing on an ongoing basis
  • When most or all of your content will be brand new and you plan to rewrite or replace all existing site content
  • When your project will have custom development work with significant content needs that need to be started very early in the project

When Not to Use GatherContent

  • When your project is using BU Landing Pages and does not have a significant custom development piece—enter content directly in WordPress
  • When you are comfortable in WordPress and are managing a smaller team of site owners or editors
  • When you plan to modify or keep most or all of the site content that is on your current website on the new site
  • When you have budget constraints and would rather use the effort from a manual content import to achieve other work on the website

Your account executive and the project team can help advise on the best content plan for your web project’s needs.
