Required steps include adding three custom fields to your calendar and submitting a ServiceNow request to IS&amp;T.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"cal_2\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Add Custom Calendar Fields<\/h3>\n<p><span>Add the three custom fields described below to your calendar <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/websites\/www\/wordpress\/how-to\/use-bu-calendar\/#bucal-custom\">using these step-by-step instructions in TechWeb<\/a>. ONLY administrators can add custom fields \u2014 which can then be utilized by both administrators and contributors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The following custom fields should be created:<\/p>\n<table width=\"auto\" height=\"auto\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Name<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>Label<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>Data Type<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span><code>excerpt<\/code><\/span><\/td>\n<td><a href=\"#cal_7\"><span>Excerpt<\/span><\/a><\/td>\n<td><span>Generic Data<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span><code>thumbnail_id<\/code><\/span><\/td>\n<td><a href=\"#cal_8\"><span>Thumbnail ID<\/span><\/a><\/td>\n<td><span>Generic Data<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><span><code>banner_id<\/code><\/span><\/td>\n<td><a href=\"#cal_8\"><span>Banner ID<\/span><\/a><\/td>\n<td><span>Generic Data<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><em>Notes:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>The <strong>Name<\/strong> and <strong>Label<\/strong> must be entered <em>exactly<\/em> as written above.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The excerpt field isn&#8217;t required for the event thumbnails and banners fields to be utilized.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Due to technical caching issues with the University&#8217;s Calendar app software, it may take anywhere from to 15 \u2013 30 minutes for the <strong>Excerpt<\/strong>, <strong>Thumbnail ID<\/strong>, or\u00a0<strong>Banner ID<\/strong> fields to appear in your calendar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span id=\"cal_4\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Submit a ServiceNow Request<\/h3>\n<p>After adding the custom fields (as detailed in the <a href=\"#cal_3\">Custom Calendar Fields<\/a> section above), c<span>opy and paste the text below (between the lines) into an email addressed<\/span><span> to<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:help@bu.edu\">help@bu.edu<\/a><span> and customize the fields for your site&#8217;s calendar.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote><p>Dear Help Desk,<\/p>\n<p><span>Please route this request to the bu.edu &#038; Mobile team to<\/span> perform the following tasks\u00a0on the calendar for my site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Site URL<\/strong>: <code>[ your research site's URL ]<\/code><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn on calendar excerpt in Settings -&gt; Reading.<\/li>\n<li>Regenerate Media.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Thank you.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Notes on Customizations:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul><\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>If you only want to enable <a href=\"#cal_7\">event excerpts<\/a> (not the <a href=\"#cal_8\">custom thumbnail and banner images<\/a>),<\/strong> you only need to submit your ServiceNow ticket (above) with the request to \u201cTurn on calendar excerpt in Settings -&gt; Reading.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Likewise, if you only want to enable the <a href=\"#cal_8\">custom thumbnail and banner images<\/a> (not the <a href=\"#cal_7\">event excerpts<\/a>),<\/strong> you only need to submit your ServiceNow ticket with the request to \u201cRegenerate Media.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">I<\/b><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\">f your calendar uses recurring events:<\/b> In rare instances, your calendar may make use of a <em>recurring event template<\/em>, which allows your calendar to display recurring events. One is a thumbnail image, to tease an event. The other is a banner image(which can appear on an event&#8217;s info page).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><strong>Tip:<\/strong> <\/em>Remember to use discretion in selecting imagery for your event. <em><\/em>Avoid posed stock photography of people presenting or of topics that are irrelevant to the event subject and\/or text.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Use photography where the <em><strong>focus[subject] is in the center (or as close to the center) of the imagery <\/strong><\/em>as possible in order to avoid being cropped out(especially on a <em>Full Browser Window Width<\/em> layout).<\/p>\n<h4>Adding\/Editing Imagery<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span><em><strong>Be Advised:<\/strong><\/em> (As provided by Interactive Design for the Research Companion theme) Event Banners should be sized to an aspect ratio of 16:9, with a minimum of <code>792<\/code> <code>x<\/code> <code>396<\/code> pixels and a maximum of\u00a0<code>1584<\/code> <code>x<\/code> <code>792<\/code>pixels. Event Thumbnails should be sized to a square aspect ratio of 1:1, with dimensions at least <code>189<\/code>\u00a0<code>x<\/code> <code>189<\/code> pixels but no greater than <code>500<\/code>\u00a0<code>x<\/code> <code>500<\/code>. <strong>Be mindful of keeping image file sizes low for speedy downloads and data-sensitive mobile users.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span>In WordPress, navigate to the <strong>Media Library<\/strong> and select either an available image, or an uploaded image.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Examine and confirm the images information and sizing. Refer to this sections advisement above on file dimensions and aspect ratios.<span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li>In the URL of the browser window, there will be an image <span><code>ID<\/code><\/span> (always a multi-digit number) at the end of the URL.
